For years we have talked about stopping at Crystal Caves on our way back to WI for a family visit. It is about an hour into our six hour drive, not far off the freeway and a fairly quick tour. We have some fairly big bat fans in our home so we thought it was time to make the trip. The tour was great but very rushed. It became quite comedic when the guide would say go ahead and take your time reviewing the formations as you walk from room to room. No time for that. Barely time for photos. Still worth the trip!
Grandma and Grandpa had taken the bus to MN for a visit so they were able to take the tour with us.
Most exciting during our cave tour was the chance to see several bats. This is a tiny Eastern Pipistrelle that the guide said was hanging there for several days, not unusual at this time of year. We were also able to see several brown bats flying around the caves. Unfortunately, since the tour is only an hour, we were unable to spend much time watching the creatures.
Down in the caves. It was about 50 chilly degrees. You could feel the temps drop as we continued lower into the caves. Maybe that is why B wants to be picked up?
