We had a lovely day for a Minneapolis River Boat Cruise on the Mississippi River with a large group of other homeschool famililes. Eric and his sister, Debbie, were able to come on the expedition which made it even better.
We were able to explore the boat inside and out. We spent most of it outdoors but with popcorn indoors we spent some time snacking inside.
One of our favorite parts of the trip is going through a lock and dam. We have watched at L & D #1 in Minneapolis many times but we've never been IN the L & D. It was really neat. The water level changes so slowly, you hardly notice. The water on the walls helped us measure our way down. You can see W counting the marks on the wall to see how far we were going down.
After waiting with anticipation, the doors finally opened.

W and I tried not to miss a thing. Out of all of us, W was THE most interested in everything they were doing. Each time we went into the lock and dam, a crew member would tie a super heavy duty rope to the triangle metal thingy. Yes, we asked what it was called, but that is all I could come up with right now.
Now, we will be going back up.

This is a company that separates metal recycling. I kept telling the kids that I could see Eric's truck sticking out of the pile. He had recently brought his truck in to have it fixed and they would not give it back. There was a defect and there was a crack in the frame. It was to be totaled. The kids were not sure whether or not to believe me.
After the cruise, B & S picked as many of these crabapples as they could fit in their pockets and hands.
